This Quick and Easy Chicken Biryani Recipe: Savor the Flavor in Minutes with Diced Chicken and Pre-made Ginger Paste

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon of ghee (or you can use vegetable oil)

  • 1.5 pounds of boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch cubes

  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped

  • 1 jalapeno pepper, finely minced after removing the seeds.

  • 3 tablespoons of prepared ginger paste

  • 2 teaspoons of garam masala

  • 1 teaspoon of ground cumin

  • 1 teaspoon of ground turmeric

  • 1.5 teaspoons of salt

  • 1 tablespoon of minced garlic

  • 2 large tomatoes, chopped

  • 1/2 cup of golden raisins

  • 1 cup of uncooked basmati rice

  • 2 1/4 cups of low-sodium chicken broth

  • 1/4 cup of cilantro leaves, finely diced for added flavor.

  • 1/4 cup of unsalted almonds, thinly sliced.

  • 1 lime, cut into wedges

Directions

  • Diverse Protein Options: You can swap the chicken for lamb, beef, shrimp, or even a medley of vegetables like cauliflower, green peas, and potatoes for a vegetarian alternative.
  • Explore Different Rice Types: Instead of using basmati rice, consider using other long-grain rice varieties or even short-grain options like jasmine or sushi rice. Keep in mind that cooking times and liquid proportions may differ depending on the type of rice you choose.
  • Incorporate Additional Vegetables: Elevate the biryani’s flavor and nutritional profile by adding bell peppers, green beans, or carrots.
  • Experiment with Spices: Play around with a variety of Indian spices like coriander powder, red chili powder, or fennel seeds. You can also infuse saffron in warm milk to impart a rich aroma and color to the dish.
  • Introduce Yogurt: For a creamy and tangy twist, mix in plain yogurt when adding the tomatoes.
  • Layering Technique: Instead of cooking all the components together, consider layering partially cooked rice with the chicken mixture and steaming them together. This method, although more traditional, can yield a more aromatic result.
  • Whole Spices: Opt for whole spices like cinnamon sticks, black cardamom pods, cloves, and black peppercorns instead of ground spices to enhance the richness of the dish.
  • Add Dried Fruits: Replace or supplement golden raisins with other dried fruits like apricots or dates to introduce a different taste and texture.
  • Diverse Garnishes: Enhance the visual appeal and flavor by garnishing the biryani with fried onions, mint leaves, or pomegranate seeds.
  • Include Eggs: For an extra layer of flavor and a protein boost, consider adding hard-boiled eggs to the biryani.
