Tender and succulent meat, glazed with a glossy and sticky sauce, Coca-Cola chicken wings are easy to prepare and incredibly delicious.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds of chicken wings (approximately 900g)

  • 2 tablespoons of oil

  • 3 slices of ginger

  • 1 can of cola (regular, not diet)

  • 1 tablespoon of Shaoxing wine

  • 1 tablespoon of dark soy sauce

  • 2 tablespoons of light soy sauce

  • Optionally, 1 piece of dried orange peel

  • Optionally, 1 small cinnamon stick

  • Salt (to taste)

Directions

  • Begin by washing and cleaning the chicken wings. Cut the wings at the joints, and then pat the chicken dry using a paper towel.
  • Initiate the preheating of the wok until it reaches a smoking point. Add the oil and swirl it around to coat the bottom of the wok. Now, introduce the ginger and chicken wings. Arrange the wing pieces in a single layer and lightly brown them for a few minutes on each side. Keep the wok over high heat.
  • Next, add the cola, Shaoxing wine, dark soy sauce, light soy sauce, and, if you choose, the optional orange peel and cinnamon stick. Bring it to a boil, cover it with a lid, and lower the heat to medium. Let it simmer for 12-15 minutes until the sauce is almost fully absorbed, leaving a small amount of sauce at the bottom of the wok. Stir the wings and season with salt according to your taste.
  • Now, increase the heat and quickly toss the wings until each piece is coated with the sauce. Serve and enjoy!

Recipe: Easy-to-Follow Steps for Preparing Coca-Cola Chicken Wings at Home

Coca-Cola Chicken Wings may not be making headlines in the United States today, but back in the early 1990s, they were a beloved Asian dish! They are truly a unique culinary experience.

I tried to dig up some intriguing facts about the origin of this dish, such as who invented it, but it seems the jury is still out. Some suggest it might have Chinese, Taiwanese, or American roots, but regardless of its origin, one thing is certain: these wings are absolutely delicious, and I say that with confidence.

More importantly, we all know that regular cola isn’t the healthiest choice. In our household, Coca-Cola is rarely on the menu. Consider these Coca-Cola Chicken Wings as a rare comfort food treat, much like fried chicken or a hotdog. And please note, this isn’t an endorsement of Coca-Cola! Any cola brand will do for this recipe.

So, if you were born after the ’90s or simply don’t recall much about that era, think of this recipe as a taste of history. Gather some friends and give this recipe a try to discover what all the hype was about, all while avoiding the temptation of devouring an entire batch of Coca-Cola Chicken Wings yourself.
